CITROËN SUSPENSION WITH PROGRESSIVE HYDRAULIC CUSHIONS® New C4 is equipped with Citroën Suspension with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® providing supreme comfort and a flying carpet effect, for the benefit of on-board well-being, dynamism and driving pleasure. Its principle of operation is simple. Suspension with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® adds a hydraulic stop to each end of the suspension travel: one for rebound and one for compression. The suspension thus works in two stages depending on the stresses: On light compressions caused by minor road imperfections such as a broken road surface, the spring and shock absorber jointly control the vertical movements without stressing the hydraulic stops. This gives the impression that the car is flying over minor defects in the road surface, creating a "flying carpet" effect. On major compressions caused by more significant bumps in the road, the spring and shock absorber work in tandem with the hydraulic stops which gradually slow down the movement, thus avoiding sudden stops at the end of the stroke. The hydraulic stop absorbs and dissipates the stored energy away from the passenger compartment, so the passengers are perfectly isolated from the road.
